You will recognize most of the brands of gas stations on the island. Most are very modern and well equipped. You don't really need to ask for gas (if you pull up in front of a pump they will know), but the Spanish word for gasoline is close enough to English they will understand you if you say "gasolines" (don't just say "gas").
