The west end of Margarita Island is very different from its East end. The west is a genuine mountainous desert which looks a lot like some of the areas in the Southwestern U.S. Much of the desert is heavily covered with cactus and other desert shrubs as you can see in this photo. However, it still has a sort of beauty of its own, and is worth a visit if you have time.
